Hey There
We are the Spring Creek Ditch Irrigation Company.
About Spring Creek Ditch Irrigation Compay
The pioneers decided to dig a channel in order to bring water from the mountain streams to the fields, pastures, and gardens of the residents. Utah pioneers were pretty smart when it came to finding ways to make their new land more livable. This was no easy task because the dirt and rock in the ground were tough to dig through.
Construction was accomplished using a team of horses, scrapers, and the manual labor of many hard-working men. They built headgates and turnouts using concrete created by mixing river sand and gravel on site.
Farmers in the northern settlements of Utah early on were generally
more successful at irrigating their crops than farmers living in Southern Utah.
Their success was due in large measure to the lay of the land, the soil conditions, and greater precipitation in the form of snow.
Sping Creek Ditch Irrigation company was then oraganized by the property owners who lived below the canal. They needed a company with stockholders to provide rights sufficent to water their property. The capital stock consisted of one class of "Primary Stock"

When the first settlers arrived in the Heber Valley in the early 1800s, they found a land of steep mountains and narrow canyons. In order to make this area easier to settle, pioneers made one of the first canals in the Heber Valley which became the Spring Creek Ditch canal, and were soon after joined by the Sage Brush canal to form one.
